10 Ideas for Raising Awareness
Talk about it on Social Media. Create and Share posts to engage people and communities on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Visit Cat's aren't Dogs: Frederick AdvoCats and give a like, share, and comment on our page.
Speak at Educational Events. Host your own events where you can teach people something really useful for their own lives that you know a lot about or attend community events and include discussion about our cause.
Host Social Events. When getting together with others for fun and social events, tack on some information about how to help cats.
Organize a Service Project. Allow groups (e.g., service clubs, employees at a company, etc.) to volunteer together in some way related to our work, perhaps on a special volunteer day.
Spread the news. Newsjack by tacking your story on to an existing news story. By providing reporters with a story they can use to update breaking news in the following days, your story is more likely to generate interest.
Be a Trusted Expert. You can answer questions from interested parties, debunk myths from naysayers, and further educate your friends and neighbors. Establish yourself as an authority by researching and verifying your sources so you'll be a well informed advocate.
Give Free Advice and Praise. Share helpful tips in a friendly way, such as how-to articles and checklists and be sure to show your gratitude to others who are doing good work to help cats.
Distribute Materials. Where are people most naturally triggered to think about cat issues? Put brochures, inserts, or other “leave behind” materials in those places. Share our flyer far and wide to let people know what we are doing.
Show your Support. Small things like wallet cards, magnets, stickers, etc. make handy reminders that are attractive for display on refrigerators, and other visible places. Wear T-shirts and other apparel to show your support to the world and get conversations started! Alley Cat Allies has some good ones like this Love Cats More T-Shirt.
Empower and Connect Others. Bring together people who have a common interest and facilitate their sharing and networking, so they know they are not alone.
